7.4.  Use the IBM Support Assistant to analyze diagnostic data.

The IBM Support Assistant Workbench provides a tooling platform for you to easily download and use problem determination and analysis tools at no charge.

Download and Install the Tool

  1. Download (http://www-01.ibm.com/software/support/isa/workbench.html) and install the IBM Support Assistant Workbench.

  2. From the Support Assistant Workbench, click Update > Find New... > Tools Add-ons.

  3. In the window that pops up, select the tools that you would like to install and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. When the installation has completed, the Workbench will restart.

    For memory heap analyzing select Dump Analyzer as shown on the figure below.

Prepare Heap Memory Dump in WebSphere Application Server

  1. Open Integrated Solutions Console.

  2. Open Throubleshooting > Java dumps and cores menu on the left pane.

  3. On the right side select the Application Server with the application to analyze. Click the Heap dump button.

Run the Tool

  1. Start the IBM Support Assistant Workbench.

  2. From the Welcome page, click Analyze Problem.

  3. On the "Analyze Problem" tab, select Tools. You will see a list of all the installed tools.

  4. Select the tool you would like to run and click Launch to run the tool.

    For our case, select the generated Heap Memory Dump.
