Basic logging

WebSphere Application Server provides a great many logging options and the most significant environment incidents are logged automatically.

The basic logging provides Java virtual machine logs, diagnostic trace, and service log files commonly named SystemOut.log, SystemErr.log, trace.log, and activity.log.

To support the analysis of logging activity, the IBM Support Assistant can be used to launch the IBM Tivoli Log Analyzer. This tool supports the downloading of symptom catalogs of known issues that go into the logs. Furthermore, application developers can build symptom catalogs and write logs from their applications to add to the manageability of their applications.
